The Islamic Weekend School was established in September 2003, by parents who immigrated to Australia and who were concerned about their children’s Islamic education.
Philosophy
The primary purpose of the Islamic Weekend School program is to help each child develop concepts, disciplines, and principles relative to their unique Islamic identity. Islamic education is essential to help your child face future challenges as Muslims.
This program is designed to assist your child in this endeavour. The home and the school have a joint responsibility for a child’s development. Working together we can achieve far more than either can hope to do alone.
Goals
The goals of the Islamic program are centered on raising the Islamic standards for the Muslim youth at home, in the school, environment and in the community. With sound Islamic education the Muslim youth are thus prepared to make intelligent choices based on the guidance of the Holy Qur’an and the example of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
Venue
IWS is based at the Jeffcott street mosque in the city of Melbourne. It is currently operated by volunteer parents/members of the Islamic community, either in a teaching or administrative role Lessons are conducted in English on Sunday mornings according to the IWS school timetable.
